The primary purpose of this
course is to help students transition successfully to the
university. The focus of the course will be to familiarize
students with campus resources and to facilitate their
engagement in the university experience. Through group
discussions with a faculty mentor, students will develop
critical thinking and social interaction skills to prepare them
for the academic environment. Students will become active
participants in the university community. Course content will
include access to university resources, college policies, role
of the academic advisor, student support services, and
university academic requirements.
The University Experience course will:
- Goal 1: Provide opportunities for students to make
key connections with other students,
faculty,
advisors, and support staff at DSU.
- Goal 2: Provide information on DSU’s campus
resources, activities, curriculum, and policies
to aid
students’ transition from high school to college.
- Goal 3: Provide instruction to help students develop
and obtain personal goals for college
learning, social
growth, and academic and career planning.
- Goal 4: Provide techniques to enable students to
develop or enhance study skills essential
for academic
success.
