PowerPoint Presentation Tips

bullet

Follow the 7 by 7 rule.  Each PowerPoint slide should have no more than 7 words across and 7 lines down.

bullet

The technology is to be an aid to the speaker and listener.   Presentation should be shown in bullet form rather that giving all of the information.  The presenter's job is to fill in the information.

bullet

Glance at the presentation slides as a guide, but to not read the information off the board.

bullet

The presentation slides are you guide.  Do not use other papers.   The only other materials you may need for your presentation would be artifacts that you would like the audience to see and you will be explaining the connection.

bullet

Presentation tools are meant to add interest to your presentation.   Pictures and graphs are helpful to the visual learner.  Use "bells and whistles" in a limited way.  They should be used every once in a while to add interest, but over use is distracting.

bullet

If you have used textbooks, resource materials, quotes, etc., add a bibliography and give the authors credit.  This can be added as the last slide.

bullet

Practice your presentation.  Your enthusiasm and your interest in the topic will be the greatest asset to your presentation.
