Mark Hawkes, Instructor

I am in my fourth year here at DSU having previous worked at a Regional Educational Laboratory in Chicago, and then before that at the center for Instructional Design at Syracuse University.  I have a wife who is my better in almost every way, and we have four children, 10, 8 and 6, and 3 months. I am originally from Blackfoot, ID with many wonderful stops, both short and long around the world.  My past times are just about any sport and time with my family.

Chizuru Aso
I came here over 4 years ago to start studying about American education from Japan. I just graduated DSU this May 02 as you know. To tell you the truth, I wavered in my judgment between to find a job and to keep studying after graduating a university. However, I realized that I couldn't stop learning much more about technology relating to education. Then, I decided to be a graduate student to expand my knowledge for education field.

There are 5 members in my family: parents, a younger sister, a younger brother, and me. Of course, they are in Japan now. I've really appreciate every single their support for me.

After I would learn enough about technology for education field throughout being a graduate student, I hope I will be an educator including a teacher in the US. I am not sure what exactly I want to be though, I am excited to try how much I can do in the US!!

I am 53, a part time physics instructor and part time technology coordinator for the district, my main emphasis is the school web page and training teachers. My wife is the library administrator at the Spirit Lake Public Library.  Our two sons are married, one is an instructor and football Coach at Northwestern College and the other a doctor in Des Moines, but he is moving here!! I have taught and coached almost every HS subject and sport with a few MS thrown in.  I was also a systems analyst for 6 years.  I have taught in Glidden Ralston, Spirit Lake and Terril, all in Iowa. I do web pages, JavaScript, programming, and MS Office. I have decided to get my masters through DSU and am on my second course. I enjoy bridge, chess, football, family, church, physics, and computers. Plus, the Iowa Great Lakes has wonderful restaurants. We should have our senior skip day here.

I'm currently working at Basalt High School as the Tech Coordinator.  Tech Coordinator is a fancy name for the guy that can unjam the copier.  I teach the incoming Freshmen Basic "Boot" camp, and try to offer a few high classes.  I'm definitely learning as much from them as they are from me.

I have 2 girls, Savanna (9 yrs) and Ciarra (12 yrs). They are pretty much my hobby.  We like to do outside things: rafting, softball, walking.  We live in Carbondale, CO. I'm originally from the Idaho, Montana area.

David Forsey
I am David Forsey.  I grew up in Canada with seven older sisters and an adopted younger sister and brother.  I came to the States in 1980 to go to school in TN.  That is where I met my wife, LaRonda, and from there we went to Florida to work for ten years.  I taught sixth grade and was the network administrator there.  I helped write a grant and set up computers in the classroom as an experiment.  That program today is still going.  From Florida we went to Nairobi, Kenya for six years.  I was the head teacher in a two room school.  Now I am back in the States getting this degree.  I have two boys: Dillan(10) and Drew(12) years old.  I love photography, sports, the outdoors, and animals.  As you can see, family is very important as well.  I also like to travel!

I graduated from USD in '94 with a degree in mathematics.  I taught math for 3 years in Wakonda, then I said the wrong thing to the right person or the right thing to the wrong person...not sure which...but now I am the technology coordinator at Harrisburg Schools.  We just moved into our new high school facility and it has been a challenging summer getting all the machines up and functional.....but I am getting there. I have 2 sons: John, who is in his 2nd year at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE.  Brian is a junior at Irene high school. I am an avid walker/jogger and I enjoy cross stitching the evening away.

Trina Johnson
I am currently the computer instructor at the Hanson School District and have been for the past three years.  My family consists of my husband of almost 2 years and a step son, age 4.  Right now I don't exactly have much time for past times.  In the future, probably when I retire I hope to still be able to walk, ride bike, swim, do crafts, and spend time with family and friends.

Sandra Krage

I’m Sandy Krage.  Most of my teaching has been in Christian schools until recently.  At the last one I taught art and was the K-12 librarian.  This is my second year to substitute teach.

While I’ve been between full-time teachings, I’ve worked on a few different grant-funded projects that have been enjoyable and good learning experiences.  This semester, Paulette and I just had our proposal approved from the Scholars-at-Large [DIAL] to do a library skills project.  Then I like to be sure everyone, especially those teaching SD history know about the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village virtual tour at  www.lofti.dsu.edu/piv.  I can send the UbD lesson plan for fourth grade social studies if anyone is interested.

In my spare time I feed my cats and pull a weed or 2.  Last summer I traveled to see my family in other states, and hope to do that this Thanksgiving and Christmas.  My parents bought their first computer last year so I could study while visiting them.

Goals:  To learn more about curriculum development.  To become more aware of the differences between the different design model. To learn which models will work best for me.

Darci Love
After graduating from Huron University I was not able to get a teaching position in Huron.  So, I went to work for the Huron Area Adjustment Training Center as a Family Services program coordinator.  After being employed here for two years, the person I did my student teaching for in college was leaving the Huron School District.  Having made a lot of contacts through my student teaching and growing up in the community, I got my FIRST teaching job!!  Six years later and nothing has changed.  I still love coming to work everyday.  I teach 8th grade History and coach Junior Varsity and Varsity gymnastics. I have wonderful husband who is very supportive and two GREAT girls.  My oldest daughter (Kelli) went to High School this year (9th grade) and my youngest (Kami) is in Kindergarten this year.  It doesn't seem like I have any pass times between school and keeping up with the girls, but if I do find some free time, we like to golf.

I have been teaching for 7 years and recently obtained my K-12 Computer Science endorsement which led me to pursue this degree. Prior to teaching I was the Director of Student Life at DWU for 4 years. My husband Mark and I have 2 sons: Noah is 5 and Devon is 2. Donna Ness
My name is Donna Ness and I currently reside about half way between Mitchell and Artesian, SD. I have been teaching at Mitchell Christian School for the past five years and love working with the fourth grade class. My husband Mark and I have been married for 23 years and we have one son, Kyle.  Kyle turns 21 next week and is working in Iowa and is engaged to be married next summer.  I love to read and travel but barely find time for either of these two pastimes. Much of my time is spent fixing computers at school for all the other teachers. I am looking forward to the fall classes that I am enrolled in.

Sandra Nightengale

Hi! My name is Sandy Nightingale and I teach first grade in White Lake. My husband, Craig, and I have been married for 16 years and have four children, Jennalee-13 years, Ethan-11 years, Zane-8 years, and Maria-6 years. We live on a farm north of White Lake where Craig is a cattle and grain farmer and also coaches high school wrestling at Plankinton/White Lake/Mount Vernon.

I have taught in White Lake for the past 15 years, taking one year off from teaching after our second child was born. Before teaching in White Lake, I taught in Wessington Springs for three years. I have taught all elementary grade levels, except kindergarten, second and third grades, but have taught first grade for the past 11 years.

I am currently finishing up on the Web Master Institute program through DIAL, and my daughter, Jennalee, is just starting in the program this summer.  In the fall of 1998, I was one of 200 teachers chosen from the United States to travel to Japan for a three week study tour with the Fullbright Memorial Fund project for teachers. It was a wonderful experience and something I will always remember!

Brian O'Connor
Born in Hot Springs, SD, Brian spends most of his time slurping the transcendental spiritual energy from the Oversoul.  This is because he spends most of his time on the road working for DIAL, Inc. and the Interactive Learning Campus.  He likes to think about reading, hiking, camping, and many other fun things in lieu of a hobby.  He can really eat, though!

Brian really likes what he does for a living--even though it takes a whole lot of time--since it helps promote learning and distance technology all at the same time.  His main goal at this time is to finish the classes he has signed up for.  He is married to Kathy, has two daughters by default (through marriage), and is most likely the youngest Grandpa in the Cohort.

I am married and have a (almost) 6 year old daughter Alexandra who will be in kindergarten this year. I teach computers in the elementary school here in Birch Run. Michigan.
