 Instructional Design Models

  Design Models (4:56)

Learning Objectives

Learners will:

  1. Be introduced to different types of instructional models.

  2. State the general purposes of models.

  3. Identify a specific model for elaboration.

Readings

  1. Review the following Powerpoint: Instructional Design Models.

  2. Model of choice from an overview of Instructional Design Models at the University of Colorado Denver web site.

Assignments

After reading the short preface to instructional design models, the web site lists several dozen different types of instructional design models (i.e. action research, activity theory, anchored instruction, behaviorism, CSCL, conversation theory, Dick and Carey, information processing, problem-based learning, etc), your task starts with selecting one of the readings listed under your model of choice.  When you have completed the reading, go to the web board and in two short paragraphs, summarize the model you read, and then share how you think the model has been successfully used in whole or in part, by you or other teachers you've observed.  To complete the assignment, read the posts of your classmates.  Where appropriate, follow-up the summary with some of your own comments.
